Redskins vs. Vikings: The Great, the Good, and the Not-So-Good

The Great
- rookie Evan Royster gets the start for injured rookie Helu and ran for 132 yards on 19 carries; looks like Shanahan has found two talented RBs who fit his system well
- Kyle's passing offense continues to click: 9 different receivers have catches for 289 passing yards and 2 receiving TDs
- Gaffney, who leads the Skins in receiving yards, has another strong game catching 6 passes including a gorgeous one-hander for a TD
- Graham Gano continues a strong season (if you remove the numerous blocked kicks from his resume), making 4 of 4 FGs including from 47 and 53 yards
- 36 year-old London Fletcher leads the team in tackles again; he might not be human

The Good
- Rex Grossman: for the 87th time he throws for lots of yards but turns the ball over twice
- Brandon Banks: he shows flashes, but just isn't the game-changer he used to be

The Not-So-Good
- the Skins lost to a 2-12 team that lost its best offensive player (Adrian Peterson) and starting QB (Chris Ponder) to injuries
- the defense looked terrible against a 2-12 team that lost its best offensive player and starting QB to injuries
- our defense looks best when the other team is sitting on a lead, and worst when the other team is tied or losing -- in short, our defense looks worst when the other team is trying
- I'll say it again: I think we have an extremely talented defense that deserves a better defensive coordinator

  1. Good for you for being able to find something better than bad to say about this game. I was fortunate to be on the road in Arizona, so I was watching a rookie QB lead the lowly Bengals to 9-6.

It seems clear that both Grossman and Beck should be gone next year. Why not see what else we have on the bench? I frankly don't know who that would be, but perhaps it would be worth it to see how many QBs we need to pick up.

You are right on about the Defensive Coordinator. Too bad we lost the best one in the league a few years back.

  2. I could see keeping Grossman as a back-up. His understanding of Kyle's offense is at a high level, and he could help a new QB learn the offense. He could also potentially serve as starter if we draft a rookie QB who would be better off watching for a season.

Yeah, we could use a better DC. Saw this article today on potential replacements, found it interesting: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/979563-washington-redskins-the-5-best-replacements-for-jim-haslett
