Skins vs. Vikings: The Great, The Good, and The Not-So-Good

The Great
  • Who else but RGIII.  RGIII accounts for 320 yards of offense and 3 TDs.  He's also leading the league in completion percentage.
  • Lorenzo Alexander.  The special teams ace is now a linebacker ace?  Helping to fill in for Orakpo, Alexander had 1.5 sacks, several QB pressures, and a huge fumble recovery.
  • London Fletcher.  He's had a couple games in which he barely showed up in the box score, but he's back to his old tackling machine self, notching 6 solo tackles and 5 assists, including a QB sack.
The Good
  • Redskins Defense.  Can't call them Great when they let up 352 passing yards, but they give up FGs more than TDs, and come up with turnovers and a TD of their own.
The Not-So-Good
  • Brandon Banks.  He does nothing in the return game, nothing on offense, and is credited with another fumble.  This is not why he is on the roster.
  • Kai Forbath.  He made a 50 yard FG and all 5 extra points, so why is he here?  Forbath's kickoffs were short and resulted in two long kickoff returns. Compared to his predecessor Cundiff who was a touchback specialist, and compared to the Vikings' kicker who notched a touchback on every kickoff, Forbath's short kickoffs resulted in an extra 40 yards for the Vikings -- the equivalent of 4 or 5 QB sacks.  Before the game Forbath noted that kickoffs are his weakness.  Unfortunately he's right.  Even his touchbacks were short kicks that bounced through the endzone.  He's got to improve or Skins' opponents will routinely start possession around the 40 yard-line.
