Redskins vs. Rams: The Great, The Good, and The Not-So-Good

The Great
- Not much this week.
- London Fletcher. Last week London had a sub-par game. This week he not only had six tackles, but a huge INT in the endzone and a huge strip to get the Skins the ball late in the 4th quarter with a chance to tie or win.

The Good
- Robert Griffin. RGIII accounted for 3 TDs and again showed amazing athleticism, and very good poise and decision-making, especially for a rookie. But he also threw an INT, missed a wide open Alfred Robinson for a huge gain and potential TD late in the game, and on a few occasions appeared flustered at the hits he was taking.
- Alfred Morris. Second straight week with a very solid game running the ball.

The Not-So-Good
- Josh Morgan. Late in the 4th quarter, on 3rd down, Josh Morgan caught a ball from RGIII and made two horrible mistakes. First, he turned the wrong way after the catch losing yards instead of gaining a sure first down. Second, after the play Morgan threw the ball at the defender, earning a 15-yard penalty -- this put the Skins in 4th and long and pushed them from a 47 to a 62 yard FG attempt for the tie. I thought Morgan was close to getting called for unsportsmanlike conduct earlier in the game. He's got to get his head together.
- Danny Smith. His unit allowed yet another blocked kick. That's two blocked punts so far this year after numerous blocked FGs last year. Enough already.
- Brandon Banks. He had his chances, including late in the game on a 65-yard punt with room, but did nothing with them. And he occupies a roster spot solely for his ability to make plays in space.
- Injuries. #1 receiver Pierre Garcon and starting safety Brandon Merriweather are out, and Orakpo and Carriker get hurt.
- The Officiating. Officials made mistakes regarding potential scoring plays, late hits, use of instant replay, among others.

  1. With Orakpo and Carriker gone for the season, unfortunately the Skins are already done. When RG3 gets taken out sooner or later from all these hits he is taking, then we can look forward to another 5-11 finish.

  2. Yeah, huge blows :( But if RGIII and the young core of receivers and running backs show progress playing together, then it won't be a wasted year.

  3. Last year was the wasted year. Skins should have traded down and taken Dalton in the first round, or up and gotten him in the second. Then they would have still have had draft picks available to build the team. Instead they have mortgaged the future on RG3 and have no one to put around him. And soon he'll be injured and they won't even have him! Poor, poor drafting again, but then it's never been good since Bethard left.
