Skins vs. Giants: The Great, The Good, and the Not-So-Good

The Skins beat three consecutive NFC East opponents.  I checked my calendar, it's indeed 2012 and not 1991.

The Great
  • Kyle Shanahan.  He wasn't on the field, but his impact loomed large.  Shanahan is a master at designing different plays that begin out of the same formation, and a master at disguising what's coming next.  The Giants' defense was kept off balance for much of the game.
  • Pierre Garcon.  Just a few weeks ago it seemed Garcon could miss the season. Tonight he had 8 receptions for 106 yards and a TD.
  • Alfred Morris.  124 yards on 22 attempts, breaks the 1,000 yard mark, and fights for the first down that seals the game.  He is forgiven for his fumble.

The Good
  • RGIII.  He accounts for 'only' 235 yards of offense.  And he didn't see Santana Moss wide open for a TD late in the game, and he overthrew Josh Morgan on a key 3rd down late in the game.  And because he's good at everything (accuracy, arm strength, speed, poise, intelligence) I have to find reasons to occasionally say he had a 'good' rather than 'great' game.
  • Skins defense.  Can't call them great when they let up 400 yards, but they gave up FGs rather than TDs, and held the Giants to just 16 points.

The Not-So-Good
  • Brandon Banks.  Returned more than one kickoff and punt short of the 20 yard-line.  He's making poor decisions, and he hasn't looked elusive or fast for a long long time.
