Youth Everywhere ... And That's a Good Thing

With so much focus on RGIII, it's easy to miss that no fewer than 12 rookies and 2nd year players are making major contributions up and down this Skins team.  Today's win against the Ravens is a great example.

Rookies
  • RGIII.  We'll start with the obvious, he's re-writing rookie record books.
  • Kirk Cousins.  Makes several key plays in the comeback win, including a pass for a first down, a TD pass in the final seconds of regulation, and a QB sneak for the game-tying 2-point conversion.
  • Kai Forbath.  14/14 on FGs this season, including two long FGs and the game-winning FG today.
  • Alfred Morris.  Also re-writing rookie record books, averaging almost 5 yards per carry and 4th in the league in total rushing yards.
  • Robert Crawford.  In for Brandon Banks as punt returner, and breaks a 64-yarder to set up the game-winning FG.  Also plays an increasingly important role in the secondary.
2nd Year Players
  • Ryan Kerrigan.  Already all-pro caliber, his QB pressures today caused the INT and led to an incomplete pass to a wide open Ravens receiver for a sure TD -- two huge plays that won't show up in the stat sheet.
  • Leonard Hankerson.  Turning into a reliable possession receiver, had 4 receptions for 67 yard
  • Niles Paul.  He's everywhere on the field, returning kickoffs, covering kicks, and playing tight-end.
  • Jarvis Jenkins.  Talented player who has come back from injuries and is now getting starts at defensive end.
  • Finally, Evan Royster, DeJon Gomes, and Chris Baker all get significant playing time as primary backups.
Let me know if I'm missing anyone.  The foundation is being laid for a long and bright future.

  1. Aldrick Ronsinson has been a deep threat beast this season for the Skins, also.
