Redskins Offense Should Dominate Giants Defense

The Redskins have had their share of injury problems in recent years, but nothing like what the Giants' defense currently faces. Against the Redskins this Sunday, the Giants defense is missing key starters at all levels: secondary, linebackers, and defensive line.

First, their secondary has been decimated. Starting cornerback Terrell Thomas is lost for the season. Two veteran backup cornerbacks, Bruce Johnson and Brian Witherspoon, are also lost for the season. Cornerback and first round-draft pick Prince Amukamara is out for a month or more with a broken foot

But it's not just the secondary. At defensive end, Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora is out against the Skins after knee surgery. The other starting defensive end, Justin Tuck, has missed the last two practices with a neck injury, although he is expected to play on Sunday.

It gets worse. Just yesterday starting middle linebacker Jonathan Goff was lost for the season with an ACL tear. His backup is a rookie 6th-round draft pick, and at the moment the Giants have no other middle linebackers on their roster.

In short, when they play the Skins this Sunday, the Giants will lack experience and starting-caliber talent at key positions throughout their defense. If the Skins are about to unveil the high-powered offense they teased us with this pre-season, Week 1 against the Giants is the time to do it.
