Redskins vs. Giants Recap: The Great, the Good, and the Not-So-Good

Great...
- Contributions by the Rookies Kerrigan (INT returned for a TD) and Neild (1.5 sacks and a forced-fumble)
- Fred Davis has 5 receptions for 105 yards
- Santana Moss has 6 receptions for 76 yards and catches everything thrown to him
- Sav Rocca punts 4 inside the 20, and the other 2 punts were around 50 yards

Good...
- Rex Grossman runs the offense well, but fumbles in the 4th quarter for no reason
- Tim Hightower averages less than 3 yards per carry, but doesn't fumble, scores a TD, has 3 receptions for 25 yards, and did well picking up the blitz
- Anthony Armstrong catches a TD pass but also drops a couple passes
- Graham Gano misses a 39 yard field goal (barely), but has several touchbacks and goes 4/4 on PATs

Not So Good...
- Reed Doughty was often a step or more slow resulting in several long Giants' pass receptions
- Barry Cofield doesn't get much push up the middle
- Rushing attack averages less than 3 yards per carry
- Ok, so this last one is a cheapshot, but ... Donovan McNabb passes for just 39 yards in his debut with the Vikings ... Not so good.

  1. One play that stands out in my mind, concerning Reed Doughty, is the 58 yarder to Nicks, where Kevin Barnes had to run around Doughty to push the reciever out of bounds. This play re-enforced my belief that he lacks even the basic athletic skills to compete at this level. Jim Haslett's interview was even more concerning, blaming other aspects of the defense for the break down of the play.

  2. Yeah, I hear you. The only comfort is that I remember Doughty playing terrible last year when he took over as starter, and his play got better as the season went on, maybe even became adequate after a game or two.
